The one is related to the other

It is often a source of horrified wonder when customers sent to collections still think they should have no problems renting additional videos from us. Perhaps it would be different were it a rare and exotic experience. Sadly, most of the rental customers handed off to a collection agency feel like that should have no bearing upon their continued borrowing privileges.

Yeah buddy, we had to chase your dead-beat ass down to get you to cough up a couple hundred bucks you owed us and you think we're still on good terms? You lied to us. You said you'd bring them back on time and you didn't. You ripped us off. You kept them instead. What multi-colored type of crack are you smoking?!

And yet they dare to blink at me over the counter with confusion writ large on their features. They endeavor to look sheepish, as if embarrassed by some minor foible. What arrogant presumption to assume we would forgive or forget such prior actions.

Sometimes I wish I was a little less conscientious in my job so I could tell these willfully self-involved polyps exactly how the situation stands without worrying about being tactful or touching off greater drama within the store. If only I could casually drench them with their richly deserved reward of vitriol, condemnation, and dismissal.
