Envy?

Over the last couple months, one of the magazines my store stocks has been running blowjob photos on the cover. Since the subject matter inside the periodical happens to involve things up to and beyond oral sex, I can't really say it's misleading or inappropriate. Even if most adult magazines seem to restrain themselves to pin-up style covers with a provocatively (un)dressed woman or sheath them in plastic sleeves that are opaque over the interesting areas, there's no reason for them to be so shy. It isn't a publication that will be found at the corner convenience store, so they see no need to abide by such strictures.

As chance would have it, those two covers have acted as a catalyst for the observation of human behavior. To be more specific, it would be the behavior of women. I have not yet had occasion to witness any male pass comment upon the magazine based on its cover. That is not to say they have not focused upon the image captured upon glossy paper, for they have. An erection in a woman's mouth tends to be sublimely arresting of a man's attention. Whether the popularity of fellacio is a product of media or simply reflected by it, is largely a "chicken or egg" conundrum and best left for another day.

Women on the other hand seem to comment upon the magazine with startling regularity. On an extremely rough estimation, approximately one in every three women who noticed the magazine covers would give a verbal reaction. In all but one instance that I can recall, the reactions have been critical or negative.

One cover featured an interracial couple getting frisky on a couch. I was shocked by the volume of women who expressed disgust with the photo. In some cases, if the statement wasn't blatantly prejudiced, it walked a hair's breadth from. It seems like these women couldn't just let the moment pass by without comment. Not everyone is going to find a given ethnic group to be sexually attractive. It's not a big deal, unless such a party can't conduct themselves with consideration and respect. And yet, there they were on the sales floor proclaiming it disgusting and looking for agreement of their companions or near-by customers.

The other cover was a close-up shot of a brunette lass looking up at the camera with her mouth capping the head of some generic man's penis. The angle is sharp enough that her brow is slightly rippled by her looking upward. Perhaps it was not the best choice of shot by the photographer, but women have been ripping into that model like a pack of feral dogs turning on a crippled sheep. In most cases, they seize upon how old she must be, as if any woman over the age of twenty should pack up her vagina and stow it in the attic as a keepsake of her youth.

And I have to wonder, why these covers? There are movies on the floor with similar images and themes, but I have barely a fraction of the comments regarding them as I have fielded for these last two issues. None of the women had a thing to say about the cock sucking; only the denigration of those captured engaged in it. Why? What is so threatening to their sensibilities?

It would be nice if people were rational, but I’m not going to hold my breath.
