Build your own pessimistic anxiety
The time is rapidly approaching when this store's inventory system for our videos will have to be overhauled. This is not something that promises to be fun upon implementation. Stripping every last title off the shelves to change labels is highly time intensive although deathly simple. On the other side of the counter, I'm looking at enough data entry and reorganization that I know the owner is going to be vastly unamused.
Ever tried to sell someone on something not only tedious, but detailed and involved? Just because I can see the benefits to the store in the long term does not mean he will perceive them. The daft system put in place at the humble outset is undeniably crippled and unwieldy. It does however possess a chafing familiarity and momentum. That is also not to mention the ease of requiring less time and energy when the new computer system is put in place.
Nonetheless, the course I'm charting for the store is the former option, not the latter. It's a daunting proposition. Not even the near certainty of overtime/hazard pay back-stopping the effort removes much sting.
And now I shall turn my attention back to my concept and see how many remaining gaps and weaknesses are glaring back. I dread overlooking some vital contingency that will only manifest months from now at implementation, too late to be cheaply, easily countered.

If anyone can show him the long-term benefits, it will be you. You're there HOW many days a week, working the system? And you used to work *where*? Don't second-guess yourself. Know that it will be best in the long run, work up the numbers like the whiz I know you are, and show him what you're talking about. He already thinks you practically walk on water. ;-) Now it's time to show him you can create the water that you walk on. Bwa ha ha ha.
Sounds like us trying to convince management to let us switch to authoring in DITA. Good luck. Good luck.
