Prayer for oblivion

Today, a famous and equally pompous waste of carbon shuffled off his mortal coil. Cool. I shan't record his name here. There are a great many people scurrying about the planet with opinions as reprehensible or worse. Chances are, there always will be. This one just happened to be talented enough to gain enough of a following to be known widely.

Enough damage has been wrought while they had a pulse; I have no interest in aiding their memory. The internet and media are going to do enough to preserve the "controversy" to put Lenin's corpse to shame for care.

Far better for the world to consign every last trace of him to the oblivion of time, but that is not the way of modern media.

I wonder how many consider the effects of lavishing time and attention to squeeze every last lurid frisson out of an event or celebrity for the emotional impact. It isn't as if such happenings are so unknown in this industry. The core tenet of pornography is titillation. Illicit or scandalous sex tapes almost always cause a furor, though enough of them have been "leaked" to the public that they're rapidly turning passé. It's the new that's exciting. The industry is always seeking a new edge, a new angle to exploit. What was outrageous last year is now so commonplace that it's unremarkable and boring.

Porn only needs to keep you excited until you orgasm. The rest of the world seeks to keep your emotions peaked forever.

Savor the ennui of frenzy.
