The other side of the coin

I spend a lot of time here ranting and frothing about the insensate and aggravating side of working in an adult store. Reading through the archives, it would be quite easy to acquire the impression that I endure in this profession, that I do not derive much joy or satisfaction in the employment I am engaged. That’s entirely understandable.

That conclusion is inaccurate however, I am very happy with my job. It makes for an unfortunate confluence that I tend to find an easy eloquence in expressing disgust, irritation, and sarcasm in an industry that tends to feed into that particular muse. I find it therapeutic to just let the stresses and frustrations flow into text. If I also manage to banish some of that mystery and taboo illusion surrounding adult stores, so much the better.

Today, I’d like to share one of the things that can make a shift really shine.

A group of three young women came into the store one night. After doing a leisurely wander through the toy section, they stopped in the fetish gear. They were animated, two of the women taking a lot of enjoyment in assisting their friend.

I spent close to forty minutes assisting these girls with various cuffs, collars, and impact toys. Every new item evoked a flurry of excited questions. A new world had opened up for one of them and she wanted to experience it. At the same time, she didn’t want to buy a whole lot of gear that would not get any use. She knew she was a novice.

When she left, she had a new pair of ankle cuffs, a posture collar, and handful of small locks. She quite literally skipped out the door with a huge grin.

I could never have too many moments like that here. The mood burst stayed with me for quite a while.

Groups of girls can be so sweet sometimes. I usually think of groups of girls being vapid and bitchy. It's so nice to see the sweet side of them. It makes you realize why men like to see girls smile.

The people watching in itself has to be addictive in your profession.
