I beg your pardon?!
I have a pet peeve. A modest instant rage trigger if you will. I hate people that can't help grubbing around my counter.
The store counter is my work space. I spend the majority of my shift there either running the register or manipulating data on the computer. As such, I have many tools close at hand to assist me in my job duties. There are on a regular basis, product related catalogs, industry literature, and price sheets close at hand that I consult.
It bugs the living tar out of me when someone will approach the counter and start rifling through the contents. If you have a question, I would be delighted to answer it. Reaching over the top to explore my papers or books is just bloody rude. I can't remember once where someone inquired as to whether I would mind if they flipped through a catalog or AVN issue. No, instead they just help themselves.
Or they perhaps will strain to see the screen of my computer as if whatever I am doing is of interest or importance to them. I could be updating customer records. Would you like someone checking out your rental history or contact info on a lark? I didn't think so. Even so, it gets old really quick having to lunge to blank the monitor because some moron sees fit to lean over the counter to check out what I'm working on.
And I find myself having to bite back my snarling comments and swallow the rabid attack I have a sudden urge to launch.
On more than one occasion it has disrupted my notes and progress in placing an order. In some cases, the nosey little sod has demanded to be provided wholesale pricing and operating costs of the store.
Right. Bugger off you leperous by-blow of a drug-induced rapine of a fetal morgue.
Let me parse in simple terms. My counter, especially the things that are placed out of easy access from the customer side, are not public access. They do not concern you. They are not your business. I don't turn out your pockets or ransack your vehicle. You don't trespass on employee turf.
