Monday reflections
I'm not sure if it happens to be a function of where I work or if I just happen to have the correct alchemy of personality, but people seem to enjoy sharing the insights or revelations that have struck them in regards to their sex lives. In some cases, they insist on metaphorically dragging me kicking and screaming into their bedrooms. Mayhap they think it will inflame my passions or somehow incite me to envy. I can unequivocally state that these people have never awoken anything within me that was not either contemptuous boredom or a desire to have my naked flesh purified by sandblasting. I don't care who you are or where your tastes may lay; there are people that you really do not want to visualize sexually. Some aspects of self are better served to remain unspoken unless solicited. The entire "ninja penis picture attack" via instant messenger or email that women seem prone to would be a good example.
Occasionally, someone will produce a grain of something new and gravid with depth. Frighteningly rare as they are, I live for those moments. It is hard to render into coherent words the thrill and enjoyment I derive from getting to examine this previously unexplored concept until I am either able to integrate it into the whole of my perceptions or reject the premise, whole or in part, as erroneous.
Vastly more commonplace is to bear witness to people struck with wonder over what should be readily apparent. It is on par with hearing someone declare that the earth can be trod upon as if they were Gregor Mendel announcing that physiologic traits can be inherited. Why yes, stimulation of the external genitalia on a woman prior to penetration tends to make sex more enjoyable for her. Indeed, commercial sexual lubricants are alright to introduce into bodily orifices.
A portion of them could simply be astonished by the degree of experiencing something they had previously grasped intellectually, such as comprehending that good sex becomes even better sex when both people are genuinely eager for each other and committed to continued growth together, only to be overwhelmed to understand on a visceral level the reality while they're living it. It would be a similar dichotomy between understanding a volcanic eruption and witnessing one. The subjective weight of comprehension differs by orders of magnitude.
Statistically, I know these people must exist. I have my moments of sublime wonder at what is immediately about me and overlooked as too familiar for examination. On occasion, I will encounter someone who I know is in the grip of such an epiphany. Unfortunately, I have all too ample evidence contraindicating the ubiquitousness of the requisite degree of intellectual activity. There is only a finite number of times one can explain to another how to put batteries in a toy before concluding that the majority of those homunculi passing you on the sidewalk are in fact some form of ambulatory turnip.
